Part of the Atlanta Metropolitan and Greater Athens areas, Barrow county is the home of world famous Chateau Elan resort, winery, and estate, which is also Georgia’s largest winery. The county is strategically located close to major Interstates 75, 285, 985, and 20, while Interstate 85 has an interchange in Barrow County at Georgia Route 211. With such easy access to I-85, Barrow County provides passage within one hour west to Atlanta and within 30 minutes east to Athens on Georgia Route 316.
Barrow County Schools
Efforts toward achieving the goal of “A World Class Education with Hometown Values” have resulted in numerous state and national awards www.barrow.k12.ga.us. Private schools within Barrow are Bethlehem Christian Academy, Hope Christian Academy and Prince Christian Academy.
Parks and Recreation
Fort Yargo State Park is one of the most visited parks in the state. An 1,850 acre complex where the whole family can enjoy camping, fishing, swimming, miniature golf, or just a hike through the woods. Built around an old Fort established by the white settlers in 1792, the park offers a boundless array of outdoor activities.

Major Employers
The five largest companies in the county are Thrall Car Manufacturing, Chateau Elan Winery, Harrison Poultry, United Waste Services, and Johns Manville. Together, these five companies offer over 3,200 jobs to the area. Also nearby are Caterpillar and UGA. Barrow is also a short commute to Atlanta.
